Exploring the Benefits of Non-Toxic Extermination Options
These days people are growing increasingly concerned with the environmental impact of their actions, and this concern can extend into the realm of things like pest control. While pest control has traditionally involved harsh chemicals to eliminate unwanted pests there are plenty of more modern solutions that don’t involve using as many toxic chemicals to get the job done. In today’s blog we will be looking at the benefits of non-toxic exterminator options.
What Is Non-Toxic Pest Control?
Non-toxic pest control involves utilizing pest control solutions that don’t rely on harsh synthetic chemicals to achieve results. These pest control solutions include things like biological controls, barriers, traps and naturally derived repellents. These solutions are important as toxic pest control methods have a variety of negative effects on local flora and fauna. These chemicals can eliminate helpful species in addition to pests as well as posing a possible threat to pets and family members.
What are some Non-Toxic Pest Control Options?
Biological Controls
Biological Control involves using other living organisms to eliminate pests. An example of this is utilizing lady bugs to eliminate aphids but can also involve things like targeted bacteria, fungi and viruses that will infect and kill specific pests.
Physical Traps
These include things like sticky glue traps, bait traps and live capture traps to physically eliminate pests from the desired space. These traps are non-toxic and don’t pose any danger to pets and family members and don’t threaten any flora, they are effective at eliminating pests especially when combined with other pest control methods.
Barriers
Barriers involve setting up things like fine mesh or netting to deny pests access to specific plants or areas of your yard or home. This denial of access prevents many pest problems from occurring in the first place and they are completely non-toxic.
Natural Repellents
These include things like neem oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil and lavender oil. These will help keep insects away with their smells. You can also use Diatomaceous Earth as a natural repellent as it will kill any insects that come into contact with it but is completely natural and non-toxic to larger organisms.
Integrated Pest Management
Integrated Pest Management is a pest control strategy that combines a variety of approaches to dealing with pests. This includes utilizing many of the strategies mentioned previously but can also involve strategic planting or organization that will help prevent pests from getting into your property.
