Preventative measures for pest control: What you need to know

Nobody wants their home to be invaded by pests, whether they be ants, beetles, mice or many other possible invaders, they are all unpleasant to have in your space. Therefor it is important to prevent infestations from occurring in the first place. In today’s blog we will be looking at what you need to know about preventative measures for pest control.

Secure your home

One of the best ways to prevent pest infestations is to make sure that those pests don’t get into your home to begin with. One of the ways you can do this is by denying pests any point of entry into your home. This can be accomplished by making sure any exterior cracks or gaps are sealed, making sure that your ventilation caps and covers are intact and making sure that windows and doors are properly sealed with screens and sweeps to prevent pest entry.

Maintain your yard

An overgrown or poorly maintained yard is the perfect habitat for pests that may attempt to make their way into your home. Some of the ways to keep your yard and hopefully home pest free are by trimming back any plants that may be touching your home, cleaning up any piles of yard debris that might have accumulated, keeping your lawn mowed, storing firewood away from your home, making sure your garbage is properly sealed and inaccessible and generally denying pests any easy places for habitation in your yard.

Keep your home clean

Home Cleanliness is also a factor in preventative pest control. By making sure your home is regularly vacuumed and mopped you can deny pests easy access to food particles that can act as a food supply. You should also make sure that your garbage cans and recycling are properly covered with tight fitting lids to prevent pest access, you should also store them away from exterior walls, doors and windows so they don’t act as pest attractants. You should also be sure to remove any excess water around your home as it will provide pests with a water supply which will encourage them to invade and stick around.
