What is Pest Exclusion?

There are numerous forms of pest control, and one of the most common preventative processes is pest exclusion. The process involves finding weak points within the interior of the building, and the exterior structure, and fixing them before pests can infiltrate.

Pest exclusion is a prudent decision for any property owner, as a proactive and preventative approach will limit damage and repair fees.

How Does Pest Exclusion Work?

Pest exclusion starts with a thorough inspection of your home to identify potential entry points. These could be cracks in the walls, openings in roof vents, door and window gaps, or pipe entrances. After identifying potential openings, they are sealed off using caulk, mesh screens, and even steel fences for larger pests.

Another step of pest exclusion is limiting potential food and water sources around the property that may attract pests. These tasks include cutting back overgrown foliage to discourage nesting, draining standing water sources to prevent mosquito breeding, and securing food sources, like pet food or bird seeds.

Regular waste management and cleaning routines also limit potential feeding grounds, making your property less attractive to pests.

How Often Do I Need Pest Exclusion Services?

The frequency of pest exclusion services depends on a few specific criteria, like pest type, severity of infestation, and location. On average, pest exclusions should happen yearly in the spring to address any damage from the fall and winter seasons.

Pest exclusion inspections are a great way to add peace of mind for any property owner. Although out-of-sight and out-of-mind work in some areas, when it comes to pest control, a proactive approach always works best.
